In the team's first 19 games, Quinn Hughes has put up 30 points (eight goals, 22 assists), joining Bobby Orr and Al MacInnis as the only defencemen in NHL history to have 30 points in less than 20 games to start a season.
What Hughes has done its remarkable and a couple of other interesting stats have emerged regarding his start to this current season.
Hughes is only the third Vancouver Canucks defenceman to reach the 30-point plateau in the last decade, joining Alexander Edler and Jason Garrison. Hughes is also the second-quickest to reach 30-points in a single season, only eclipsed by Tony Tanti who did so in 17 games during the 1983-84 campaign.
Finally, Hughes has put up 19 of his 30 points in the month of November, which has him in second among defencemen in Vancouver Canucks history for most points in a single month. The current leader is Dennis Kearns, who had 21 points back in March of 1977.
Hughes has been a big reason for the Canucks' success so far this season, along with Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Thatcher Demko, among others, but has also formed what is arguably the best defensive pairing in the NHL alongside Filip Hronek.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Vancouver Canucks do the rest of the season, but they're certainly in a good position right now to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020. Rick Tocchet and his coaching staff has done a great job thus far and it's great to see the success on the ice in Vancouver this season.
