It's unclear when contract talks will begin, potentially not until the 2023-24 campaign is over, but another big season could put Pettersson is some rare company in terms of the amount of money he may receive.
Dan Riccio, who's on Sportsnet 650 radio in Vancouver, thinks that if Pettersson puts up another 100+ point season and the Canucks make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that it's not impossible that he could receive $12 million or more AAV on his next contract.
After his incredible 102-point performance during the 2022-23 season, it's certainly possible that we see the 24-year-old hit the century mark for a second consecutive year, but there's a lot of factors that come into play if he is to match or surpass his production.
Firstly, it'll depend on him staying healthy throughout the entire season, which, knock on wood, there's a high probability that will happen. In the last two years, Pettersson has appeared in 160 of 164 regular season games.
Another factor is who he'll play with. As of right now, while training camp hasn't begun and we don't fully know, Daily Faceoff has Pettersson on a potential line with Anthony Beauvillier and Andrei Kuzmenko, who's also looking to repeat his production from 2022-23 after scoring 39 goals.
It won't be long until we see the Canucks on the ice for training camp, which is set to begin in just over one week, before they kick off the preseason on September 24th against the Calgary Flames.
