Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is off to an incredible start to the 2023-24 season. It's early, but if he's able to continue this play throughout the year, there's no doubt he'll hit the 100-point mark, once again.

In two games thus far, Pettersson has six points (one goal, five assists). His five assists and six points have him first among Vancouver Canucks skaters in each category.

While Pettersson's focus is solely on the 2023-24 season and helping the Canucks return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020, there's plenty of talk off the ice in regards to his contract status.

As everyone knows by now, Pettersson is in the final year of his contract and is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Pettersson was eligible to sign an extension with the Canucks on July 1st, but nothing materialized over the summer and both sides agreed to push it to the back burner for now.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported recently that both sides want aren't 100% sure about committing to a long-term contract. Friedman said that since Pettersson has come out and said that he isn't sure yet, the Canucks have also said that they're not sure about committing to him.

On Sunday, some new information regarding Pettersson and the Canucks has come out from Matthew Sekeres of 'Sekeres & Price'. According to Sekeres, he thinks the report of the Canucks being unsure about wanting to commit to Elias Pettersson may have come from team owner Francesco Aquilini.

It's going to be interesting to see where things go with Elias Pettersson and the Canucks. For the future success of the organization, getting Elias Pettersson re-signed, especially to a long-term deal, is vital, but might be easier said than done.
