MAJOR | Ethan Bear's future in Vancouver finally determined
A familiar face won't be returning to Vancouver as once expected.
Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal reported on Monday morning that the Canucks have been told they're out on Ethan Bear, who played 61 games for the team last season and fit in well.
The 26 year old suffered a shoulder injury playing for Team Canada at the World Championship last spring, and is nearing a return following surgery.
Long expected to be the frontrunner for his services, several suitors emerged in recent weeks as Bear resumed skating in the Kelowna area.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has reported that Washington appears to be the most likely landing spot for Bear, with the Capitals having more cap flexibility than the Canucks and other contenders.
It sounds like it's going to be Washington,
Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts podcast.
Washington it sounds like is prepared to offer a little bit of term.
With Vancouver's tight cap situation, they needed Bear to agree to a deal worth around $1 million and to discuss an extension in the offseason.
The team still reportedly wants to add another defenseman following the acquisition of Nikita Zadorov.
