MAJOR | NHL issues a statement on Canucks' captain Quinn Hughes
Ever since he was named the team's captain, Quinn Hughes has been a force to be reckoned with. We're now 15 games into the season and nobody has found a way to stop the Canucks' star defenceman.
NHL ONCE AGAIN RECOGNIZES HUGHES
Following the Nucks' 5-2 win to the Canadiens in Montreal, the league issued a statement via their Twitter Public Relation page announcing that Hughes was just one of six d-man to count 23 or more points in the first 15 games over the past 40 years.
Hughes now accompanies the legendary Bobby Orr as the second Defenseman to have at least 18 assists through the first 15 games at least twice:
''Quinn Hughes collected an assist and boosted his 2023-24 totals to 5-1823 (15 GP). He is one of just six defensemen in the past 40 years with 23 or more points through his first 15 games of a season following John Carlson (7-1623 in 2019-20 w/ WSH), Al MacInnis (8-1927 in 1990-91 w/ CGY), Ray Bourque (1-2122 in 1989-90 w/ BOS), Paul Coffey (4-2024 in 1988-89 w/ PIT) and Doug Wilson (6-1723 in 1987-88 w/ CHI).
* The 2023-24 campaign marks the second time Quinn Hughes (5-1823 in 15 GP) has had at least 18 assists through his first 15 games of a season (also 18 in 2022-23). He became the second defenseman in NHL history to achieve the feat multiple times following Bobby Orr (1969-70: 21 in 15 GP & 1974-75: 21 in 15 GP). '' The Defenseman is clearly looking to make a statement regarding his two-way play, but the way he's been playing with the puck has just been so tremendous.
