MAJOR | Scout makes a huge comparison on Tom Willander: The Canucks have a gem
The Canucks made the Swede Defenseman Tom Willander the 11th overall selection of the 2023 Amateur Draft. While the selection may not have been unanimous, he's precisely what the organization needed in their prospect pool.
SCOUT MAKES HUGE COMPARISON
Willander, an extremely mobile right-handed Defenseman, crossed the ocean over the summer to line up with the Boston University Terriers in the NCAA's 1st Division. His transition has gone smoothly and the scouts have started making amazing comments on Willander's play.
TSN's prospect analyst Craig Button was on Donnie and Dhali and made a comparison that is worth getting excited over. Button believes that the comparable for the Swede would be the Bruins' top defender, Charlie McAvoy:
''My comparable for him is Charlie McAvoy, his development at BU has been significant and strong. I don't see 4 better defenseman in Sweden for the world juniors than Tom.''
McAvoy excells at both ends of the ice and has been a steady 50-points producer over the last two seasons. Smooth skater, great transitioner, he had a similar path to Willander. McAvoy is also a BU alumni he had managed 25 points in 36 games his first collegiate season.
Willander has managed 7 points through the first 12 games this season and his offensive presence only grows from game to game.
