Analyst has hot take for Elias Pettersson: About to make a statement?
The 2024-25 season could be a statement year for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.
As we look ahead to the 2024-25 season, which begins in less than a month, one player to keep an eye on is Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.
Pettersson had a difficult time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, registering just one goal in 13 games and after the Canucks were eliminated, told the media that he had been dealing with a knee injury since January.
With his knee injury now behind him, Pettersson is set to start the first season of an eight-year contract extension he signed back in March that'll see him earn $11.6 million AAV, the Canucks need him to get back to being the 100-point player he was in 2022-23.
Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects was a guest on Sekeres & Price recently and said that he believes the 2024-25 season is a statement year for Elias Pettersson.
"I think that Elias Pettersson is going to, personally I think he's going to have a statement season where you know, now he's got the paycheck, people are wondering is he going to be the type of player we saw in the playoffs and long-term they have that anchor on the books? I think he's probably going to take that personally and going to come back and have a really big and impressive season." Robinson said.
As training camp gets underway next Thursday, it'll be interesting to see who Elias Pettersson is put with right out of the gate. One of his wingers will likely be Jake DeBrusk, who the Canucks signed to a long-term deal on July 1st. Meanwhile, on his other wing, the Canucks have a few options including Daniel Sprong and Conor Garland.
It's going to be a big season for Elias Pettersson and all Vancouver Canucks fans are excited to see what he has in store and if he's able to get back to being a 100+ point player with the stress of not having a contract extension no longer looming over his head.
