Just a day after being healthy scratched by head coach Rick Tocchet for the second game of the regular season, Vancouver Canucks big defenseman Vincent Desharnais has put in a lot of extra work and spoke about what will get him back in the lineup.

After a rough season opener against the Calgary Flames, the team had decided to healthy scratch recently signed Desharnais, he made 2 critical errors that caused goals against and it was time for him to go back to the drawing board and work on his weaknesses.

Since his scratching, he has spent loads of extra time with assistant coach and and legend d-man himself Adam Foote. He was seen working on his skating in a one on one session with Foote on Saturday (October 12th).

Vincent Desharnais comments about being scratched and what it will take to get him back in the lineup

When asked about being healthy scratched and what it will take to get back in the lineup, this is what he has to say:

«I have the footwork in me. It's just a muscle memory of doing it on every shift, being on my toes and being ready to jump on pucks, being ready to have a good stick. And I think it's all there,» Desharnais said after the lunchtime skate at the University of B.C.

When he was younger, he might pout or worry about things that were out of his control. It's about what he does, as opposed to what the game pushes on him.

«The last, like, year or two, I've been focusing more on myself, and what can I do to improve and to get better. And when I'm scratched, it's OK, what's in my power right now? It's not to pout and say, Why me?' And, you know, put the work boots on and just, just get better,» he said.

When Tyler Myers went down with a scary knee injury on Friday, it was immediately assumed that Desharnais would be slotted back in the lineup to replace him. Now, since the news about his injury is confirmed not serious and listed day-to-day, Desharnais may still have to wait for his turn back in the D-pairings.
