Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet Delivers Crushing News on Captain Quinn Hughes' Status for Rest of the Season
As the Vancouver Canucks get ready for tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks, Rick Tocchet has given a big update on the status of Quinn Hughes.
On Saturday night as the Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their road trip against the Seattle Kraken, Quinn Hughes sat out the final 9 minutes of the third period
after 'tweaking something' according to head coach Rick Tocchet.
Quinn Hughes was on the ice for 15 minutes at practice on Tuesday
before leaving for the locker room after participating in a few drills and now we know whether or not he'll be suiting up tonight.
Rick Tocchet gives massive update on Quinn Hughes' status for tonight's game
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet met with reporters on Wednesday morning where he said that Quinn Hughes will not play in tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
"VCR coach Rick Tocchet says Quinn Hughes will not play tonight vs Ducks. Tweaked something vs Kraken on weekend" Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said on X.
Hughes, 25, has had a tough go since the end of January when he
suffered an oblique injury against the Dallas Stars on January 31st, which forced him to miss six games for the Canucks and forced him to withdraw from the United States' roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
In 50 games this season for the Canucks, the Orlando, Florida native has recorded 60 points (14 goals, 46 assists), 27 penalty minutes and is a plus-ten.
We'll have to wait and see how the lineup looks closer to puck drop and who will come in as a replacement for Quinn Hughes in what is going to be a big game for the team's playoff chances as they sit two points back of the Calgary Flames for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
It's unclear when Quinn Hughes will be able to return to the Vancouver Canucks lineup, he when he does it is clear that the rest of the season will not be easy.
Rick Tocchet did say if he does return, the MVP candidate will not be 100% for the team under if the year.
Rick Tocchet says he doesn't think Quinn Hughes will get back to 100% this season.
However, says that's not uncommon for this point of the schedule.
"It's hard to be 100% at this time of the year."
After tonight, they have three more games in a row at home - Friday vs Minnesota, Sunday vs Dallas and March 11th vs Montreal. Perhaps he'll be able to go for one of those contests.
