The Vancouver Canucks were officially eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention on Wednesday night, with their hope of back-to-back postseason appearances now over.

Entering action on Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks - who were idle - were facing elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoff race in the Western Conference, if one of two scenarios took place.
Unfortunately for the Vancouver Canucks and their fan base, one of those scenarios did occur last night with the St. Louis Blues defeating the Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota Wild winning their game against the San Jose Sharks.

Vancouver Canucks eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention

With St. Louis and Minnesota both winning last night, they now sit in the first and second wild card spots tied with 93 points, which is the maximum Vancouver Canucks get, if they were to win their remaining four games, but the tiebreaker doesn't go in their favour, hence last night's elimination.
"With a Minnesota Wild overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks the idle Canucks have been mathematically eliminated from post-season contention." Sportsnet said on Wednesday night.
It was a difficult season for the Vancouver Canucks as injuries piled up throughout including to Thatcher Demko, Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson and even Brock Boeser, who suffered a concussion in November which caused him to miss seven games.
The team also dealt with some off-ice drama as well due to a reported feud between Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, which led to the latter being traded to the New York Rangers in late January.
This season saw plenty of change, with J.T. Miller, Carson Soucy, Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, Mark Friedman and Erik Brannstrom - previously acquired from Colorado - all traded between late-January and the March 7th deadline.
Rick Tocchet's group still has four games remaining on the schedule and hopefully, they'll be able to finish strong and give the fans something to cheer about when they return home for their final three contests starting on Saturday.
