Casey DeSmith reveals he was frustrated for not starting in game five
The Canucks have had their fair share of trouble with goaltending health since the playoffs started. Going from Thatcher Demko to Casey DeSmith and now Arturs Silovs, they became the first team in 20 years to win three games with three different netminders during the playoffs.
Silo"s was between the Canucks pipes when they pulled an amazing comeback on won in the extra frame."During game" five, when he had it the opportunity to send his team to the playoffs' second round, despite his best efforts, he failed to shut the game, and the Canucks are back in Nashville for game six.
It was recently learned that DeSmith lived in an awkward situation it's game five. The new" minder revealed he was frustrated by how things played out, adding that he'd never lived in a similar situation. He revealed that it was the first time in his career that he was deemed healthy enough to back up, but not to start the game:
«Just having the capability to play, but not being allowed to play, is a tough situation,» he said. «But, it's a unique situation (for the tea'). Demmer (Vezina Trophy finalist Thatcher Demko) is out for who-knows-how-long, and I guess they were just trying to prioritize health while we were in a good situation in the series. But, of course, it's frustrating for me.»
Was it just a ruse to leave Silovs in the net after he had won game four? Had Silovs gotten injured, DeSmith would've been ok to play parts of the game, but not its entirety?
Rick Tocchet will face a determinant decision heading into game six, having both his second and third goaltenders available and healthy. DeSmith played well through his two outings, and Silovs played through his two. Who should it be? Ride or die with Silovs since he excelled in both games? Or go back to DeSmith and his calming experience?
