Elias Pettersson Makes A Strong Statement After A Lackluster NHL Trade Deadline by the Vancouver Canucks
It's been a tough 2024-25 season for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson, but in recent games, he's started to show signs of turning things around.
Earlier this week when speaking with reporters, Elias Pettersson
owned up to his poor play to this point in the 2024-25 season and promised to finish the year strong and hopefully, get the team into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In the two game since Elias Pettersson made those comments, the Swedish forward has looked pretty good and it could bode well for the Vancouver Canucks down the stretch.
Vancouver Canucks' Elias Pettersson starting to turn things around
On Wednesday night, the Vancouver Canucks played their first game at Rogers Park Arena in nearly a month as they welcomed the Anaheim Ducks to town, with Rick Tocchet's group pulling out a 3-2 win.
Patrick Johnston of The Province asked Elias Pettersson about being in such elite company with someone like Sidney Crosby and the Canucks forward jokingly told him to go write a story about it.
Flash forward to last night, the Vancouver Canucks took on the Minnesota Wild and after going 15 games without scoring a goal, Elias Pettersson got things started with a rocket of a one-timer on the power play late in the first period.
Pettersson finished the night with a goal, three shots and six shot attempts - which were the most he's had in a single game since December 16th against the Colorado Avalanche.
"Elias Pettersson tonight:
- first goal in 15 games (slapshot on powerplay)
- 3 shots
- 6 shot attempts (most in a game since December 16th)
You're not going to notice it in real time, but Pettersson is slowly coming back to form." Big Head Hockey said on X.
The Sundsvall, Sweden native spoke to reporters after the win, saying that he's trying to continue to get better every day and will look to have a good practice on Saturday to prepare them for Sunday's tilt against the Dallas Stars.
"I'm just trying to get better everyday. Today was a good day. We got the win, had a goal, good practice tomorrow and get ready for Sunday." Pettersson said.
With their win over Minnesota last night, the Canucks passed the Flames for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference and there's no doubt that Rick Tocchet's group are hoping the Montreal Canadiens will do them a favour tonight in Calgary.
