The Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach John Tortorella less than two days after the 66 year old answered reporters' questions with some truly shocking remarks.
Torts out as Flyers head coach following fiery comments
Following a lopsided loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, John Tortorella stunned the hockey world with some brutally honest comments.
It seemed unlikely that the veteran coach would be back behind the bench next season for the Flyers, so instead the two parted ways with 9 games remaining this season.
On Tuesday night, Torts frankly seemed to tell reporters that he was fed up with his position as bench boss of the Flyers.
When you're in this type of situation, you're losing all of the time, and there is nothing at the end of the tunnel for you; there's certainly going to be some frustration. This falls on me. I'm not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season where we're at right now. I have to do a better job. This falls on me; getting the team prepared to play the proper way until we get to the end. - John Tortorella
The Flyers are 2nd last in the eastern conference, and are the worst team in the league in their last ten games, posting a 1-8-1 record.
Outside of rookie sensation
Matvei Michkov, there hasn't been much to get excited about in Philadelphia this season,
Associate Coach Brad Shaw will take over for the remaining 9 games of the season.
