After missing over weeks of game action due to a lower-body injury, the Vancouver Canucks are welcoming back star netminder Thatcher Demko.
In the weeks since that injury, it's been reported that it's related to his groin, but thankfully, after 15 games on the sidelines, Thatcher Demko is back and his return comes at the most important time in Vancouver's season.
Vancouver Canucks announce return of star netminder Thatcher Demko
In a social media post on Monday afternoon ahead of tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, which can
only be viewed on Amazon Prime Video, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've activated Thatcher Demko off injured reserve.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that goaltender Thatcher Demko has been activated from IR." the Canucks said.
Not only has Thatcher Demko been activated off injured reserve, Rick Tocchet has also announced that the 29-year-old will get the start tonight in New Jersey.
"Tocchet says Demko starts and EP40 and Hoglander have both been sent home off the road" Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver said on X.
Demko, a native of San Diego, California, has appeared in 17 games this season for the Vancouver Canucks where he has a 6-6-3 record along with a 2.87 goals against average, an .891 save percentage and one shutout.
With the Vancouver Canucks sitting five points back of the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, they're going to need their big players to step up for the remainder of the road trip, that includes Thatcher Demko, who they hope can return to his Vezina Trophy finalist form from last season.
Puck drop for tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils is set for 4:30 pm PT.
