As the Vancouver Canucks look to remain in the playoff race this season, their new focus on the NHL's trade market has been revealed.
After a busy Friday for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin, which included
trading star forward J.T. Miller, but it doesn't look like they'll be slowing down anytime soon.
Vancouver Canucks' next trade focus revealed by insider
By moving on from
J.T. Miller, the Vancouver Canucks now have a massive hole in their top-six that needs to be filled and for now, it'll be done by committee, with
Filip Chytil and maybe even
Drew O'Connor being given that opportunity.
With the NHL's trade deadline only 34 days away, the Vancouver Canucks are going to continue looking for help on the market and one insider has shared what their next focus is.
According to Satiar Shah of Canucks Central, the Vancouver Canucks are now focused on adding an impact forward that in his mid-20s and can grow with the team's current core.
"Canucks now focused on acquiring an impact forward
Preference is a player in the mid 20s age range that can grow with the core
The main asset they now have is cap space to take on a contract plus their own assets they didn't have to use to acquire a top 4D
Act three awaits" Shah said in a post on X.
The odds of Vancouver adding a mid-20s impact forward isn't going to be cheap and it might not be something that Patrik Allvin will be able bring in ahead of the deadline in early March.
While a trade either now or in the summer is still a possibility, there's always a chance they could opt to look to add through free agency starting on Canada Day.
With the salary cap going up over the next three seasons
salary cap going up over the next three seasons to $113.5 million in 2027-28, Patrik Allvin could have plenty of money to spend on someone that fits the criteria Shah mentions, although they may have to settle for someone in their late-20s.
Among the options Patrik Allvin could consider, assuming they make it to July 1st, are
Nikolaj Ehlers, Andrew Mangipane or even
Sam Bennett.
