Vancouver Canucks & San Jose Sharks Reportedly Combined in Trade Talks Friday
As the Vancouver Canucks searched for defensive help on Friday, it appears that they were in talks with a team in their own division.
Vancouver Canucks reportedly spoke with San Jose Sharks about a trade
The San Jose Sharks are one team that everyone had their eye on with a number of pending free agents they were looking to move for future assets.
Sharks General Manager Mike Grier was able to strike a deal on Saturday afternoon, sending
Mikael Granlund and
Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a first-round pick and a conditional first-round pick.
"🚨 TRADE ALERT! 🚨
We have acquired Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci from the
@sanjosesharks
for a 2025 First-Round Pick and 2025 Conditional Third-Round Pick.
Welcome to #TexasHockey, Mikael and Cody!"
However, it doesn't look like the Dallas Stars were the only team in the running for Cody Ceci, as David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting that the Vancouver Canucks discussed a trade with San Jose for the blueliner yesterday.
"There was talk last night that the Canucks had discussed a move for Cody Ceci from SJ, as well. Clearly that ended when things heated back up for Marcus Pettersson, and Stars end up with Ceci and Granlund now." Pagnotta said.
It's safe to say the Vancouver Canucks are pretty happy that things escalated to the point where they were able to acquire Marcus Pettersson as he's a much better fit for the team's top-four than Cody Ceci would have been.
Speaking of Marcus Pettersson, he'll likely be making his Vancouver Canucks debut tomorrow night as they host the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Arena, with puck drop set for just after 5 pm PT.
