LATEST | Asking price high for Jake Guentzel: Canucks coming up short on their offer?
The Pittsburgh Penguins have clarified that their star winger, Jake Guentzel, is likely on the move. The 29-year-old is in line for a pay raise on his next contract, and the team already has significant cap space tied to Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Erik Karlsson.
The Canucks possess their fair share of high-end prospects, though not among the deepest prospect pools in the league. Prospects such as 2022 and 2023 first-round picks Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Tom Wallinder highlight their prospect group.
However, Rick Dhaliwal reports that the team is likely unwilling to trade the afore mentioned two former first-round picks. He also noted that a player such as Vasily Podkolzin is not enough to reach the Penguins' asking price, besides other teams having deeper prospect pools.
