LATEST | Quinn Hughes makes franchise history: NHL issues a statement
Canucks captain Quinn Hughes recorded the primary assist on the team's lone goal in their 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday night. The helper on Brock Boeser's team-leading 36th goal of the season was his 77th point a mark that leads all NHL defensemen.
Hughes, 24, set a franchise record with 76 points last season. Still with 14 games remaining, he has passed that mark and broken said record. He also boasts a career-high 13 goals and a plus-36 rating.
Hughes is 13th in NHL scoring, and ranks four points ahead of second-best Cale Makar (74) for points among defensemen. Roman Josi and Victor Hedman (67) are tied for third among rearguards.
Hughes, needing 23 points across the team's final 14 games, has an outside shot at becoming the first defenseman in franchise history to score 100 points in a season.
