LATEST | Former Vancouver Canucks coach calls out his new team
It's been a rough season for the New Jersey Devils and they certainly haven't lived up to expectations placed on them prior to the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
The Devils finished the 2022-23 season second in the Metropolitan Division and recorded the most wins in a single-season in franchise history with 52. But this year, the Devils have been inconsistent and have dealt with poor goaltending. Ultimately, the Devils made a coaching change in early March and promoted former Canucks bench boss Travis Green to interim head coach.
In six games under Travis Green, the Devils have a record of 2-4-0 and following Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes, Travis Green met with reporters and called out his team, saying that they're 'immature'.
"A bit of it is immaturity," Green said Saturday night according to James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now. "It's a tough league to win in, you have to be ready to go every night. If you don't start on time it's a hard league to win consistently in."
Coming into Sunday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Devils sit sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 32-31-4 through 67 games. Even though they've struggled this season, they remain in the playoff picture and are only six points back of the Detroit Red Wings for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Do you think Travis Green will lead the New Jersey Devils to the playoffs this season? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
