Canucks captain Quinn Hughes scored his 75th point of the season in Saturday night's 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets. He picked up two assists in the game to put him at 76 total points this season good for 12th in the entire NHL and first among defensemen.
The total ties his career-high mark set last season in 78 games. This season, Hughes has achieved the mark in 12 less games having played just 66 to date. He would need 24 points over the team's final 16 games to reach the elusive 100-point mark, an incredibly rare achievement for defensemen. In addition to his incredible offensive numbers, he posts an astounding plus-36 rating, second in the NHL to only Gustav Forsling of the Florida Panthers.
With his first assist on Saturday, he joined Brent Burns (who did so in 2015-16 and 2016-17) as the only two active defensemen to post consecutive 75-point campaigns. Fans have to believe that with his improved play this season and last, Hughes is in line for many more dominant offensive seasons.
