MAJOR | Patrik Allvin has identified his trade untouchables
After re-signing Elias Pettersson earlier this week, the Canucks will be able to be much more open for business ahead of the Friday trade deadline.
Having already given a first and top prospect for Elias Lindholm, Rick Dhaliwal and Thomas revealed in an article published in the Athletic that the team's top three prospects are as untouchable as one could get.
Certain report suggested that they'd be open to move one of them if the player they acquired had a contract with term, but Dhaliwal and Drance stated otherwise:
It would be hubris to describe Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Tom Willander and even Elias Pettersson (the defenseman) as «untouchables,» for example, but they're very, very close to it. The team wants to keep all three.
In addition, Vancouver would like to hang on to their 2025 first round pick, as they're not yet sold on going two straight seasons without a first rounder.
The team is also deeply reluctant to trade their 2025 first-round pick. There's a feeling internally that this isn't necessarily the time for the Canucks to sit on the sidelines of the first round of the draft in consecutive seasons.
If they want to make an addition, the Canucks will be looking to use pieces like their 2025 and 2026 2nd rounders and potentially prospects like Vasily Podkolzin.
The team has limited cap space and are reluctant to move their most valuable assets, so it will be interesting to see what Allvin can cook up on a budget ahead of the March 8 deadline.
