On February 21st, 2000, in what was one of the most severe incidents in NHL history, Boston Bruins' Marty McSorley two handed slashed Vancouver Canucks enforcer Donald Brashear that resulted in assault charges.

With just 4.6 seconds left in the game, the unsportsmanlike slash to the head of Brashear resulted in his falling to the ice unconscious. Brashear went on the injured list but was able to return 44 days later. ding
McSorley was not as lucky as he received full 1-year suspension, essentially ending his 961 game career.

On top of his massive suspension, A British Columbia Judge found McSorley guilty of assault with a weapon.

In a recent interview at the Vancouver Giants game, Marty McSorley joined Sportsnet 650 radio to promote the event. When asked about his famous assault on Donald Brashear, he defended his actions and did not show the remorse that most people would think he would.

«I gave Donald Brashear a whack, for him to turn around and fight me,» McSorley said. «The stick hit him on the shoulder I came up from my waist to whack him in the body.»

McSorley still has the point of view that he didn't do anything too severe.

«I gave Donald Brashear a whack, for him to turn around and fight me,» McSorley said. «The stick hit him on the shoulder I came up from my waist to whack him in the body.»

The interview got contentious. After seeming to make excuses for what happened, it prompted Brough to say: «It sounds like you still blame Donald Brashear and others besides yourself for the incident.»

All in all, McSorley has no remorse, nor feels he didn't do anything wrong, in fact he mostly blames Canucks coach Marc Crawford for putting Brashear
out late in the game.

«Why would Marc Crawford do it? He turned to our bench and smiled.»
