During Monday's edition of 'The Jeff Marek Show', Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that while a deal isn't done until it's done, there is a framework for a Tyler Myers contract with the Vancouver Canucks, which would avoid him from hitting the market on July 1st.
Again, anything can happen between now and July 1st, which is only two weeks away, but it appears that Tyler Myers will likely be returning to the Vancouver Canucks next season. However, it's still unclear what that contract could look like in terms of how many years and the salary involved.
Myers, 34, is coming off the best offensive season since he joined the Vancouver Canucks back in 2019 as an unrestricted free agent. In 77 games, the Houston, Texas native put up 29 points (five goals, 24 assists), 77 penalty minutes and was a plus-16. He went on to record one assist and six penalty minutes in 12 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Until this deal becomes official, it's all speculation, but it would be a smart move for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks to lock him up to a deal on a lower term, anywhere from one to three years, and a salary that's less than the $6 million AAV he earned on his current contract that expires on June 30th.
