With exactly one week to go until the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season, an insider has given an update on Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
It could be a busy week for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin as a number of his players
including forward Brock Boeser could be in play before the 12 pm PT deadline next Friday.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shares update on Brock Boeser's situation
On Friday morning, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared his latest edition of 32 Thoughts where he gave a bit of an update on Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser as we inch closer to the deadline.
Friedman said while the Vancouver Canucks are wanting a five-year deal with Brock Boeser, it wouldn't be impossible to get to a six-year contract, however that might not be enough to get it done.
He added that the Canucks won't allow themselves to get worse in the middle of a playoff race as they need scoring badly and it wouldn't be the best decision to trade him without finding a replacement.
"The Canucks prefer five years for Brock Boeser, which makes me think six is not impossible. But will that be enough? Boeser is a good human and a loyal Canuck, but it's very, very hard to see everyone rewarded around you and wonder if your time will come. Tough business. The one thing I don't see is Vancouver allowing itself to get worse in the middle of a playoff fight. It's so hard for them to score, and they can't afford to move Boeser without a replacement." Friedman said.
With contract talks between the two sides believed to be non-existent or minimal, at best, Brock Boeser's name has popped up in several trade targets list and on Friday,
he jumped up to number 2 on TSN's board.
"No. 2 Brock Boeser, Vancouver's $6.7-million right winger, who has never scored at less than a 20-goal pace and is one year removed from a 40-goal season." TSN said.
While Brock Boeser's production may be down when compared to his career-year in 2023-24, there's no doubt he would be a great option for other contending teams around the league in need of scoring,
including someone like the New Jersey Devils, as he's on pace for 25+ goals.
Over the next few days as teams evaluate where they stand and what they want to do at the deadline, more teams could enter the mix for Brock Boeser, which will drive up the price and could lead to a solid return for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks.
