General Manager Chris Drury and the New York Rangers could be facing some serious backlash from the NHL due to potential tampering allegations when they completed a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

With the Vancouver Canucks being ranked dead last in the NHL in terms of their performance during the record breaking 2025 NHL trade deadline, their team made no trades to improve their roster, but a trade that took place just days before is attracting a lot of attention.

J.T. Miller and New York Rangers facing potential tampering allegations

After and up and down season with the Vancouver Canucks, the 30-year-old defenseman, Carson Soucy was ultimately trading to the New York Rangers for a 3rd-round pick on Thursday.
Soucy will give the left-side of the Rangers defense some needed muscle missing. In 59 games this season he's scored only 10 points (3 G, 7 A). - Hunter Bowman

With his former team mate and friend J.T. Miller on the Rangers, Soucy decided to waive his no trade clause to move to the Big Apple, but Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, claims their could be some tampering going on.
Carson Soucy is a left-handed defenseman on the second year of a three year, $3.25 million AAV deal. He has 10 points in 59 games and, for what it's worth, is buddies with Will Borgen.
The Rangers newly acquired superstar, J.T. Miller reportedly reached out to Soucy before the trade give him a "pitch" in order to entice him over to the Rangers, which technically is not allowed.
JT Miller called Soucy and made the big apple pitch to him.
According to the NHL itself, the league prohibits any team or their players from making contact with other players, coaches or management who are under contract with another team for the purpose of a trade.
Unless J.T. Miller was specifically told by gm Chris Drury to reach out to Soucy, it is a grey area if it specifically against the rules, but it would not be much a surprise if the league looks into it.
