Nikita Zadorov officially departs from Vancouver
After an encouraging postseason for the Vancouver Canucks, it appears as though one of their most potent defensemen is poised to depart from the team as he anticipates free agency.
Veteran rearguard Nikita Zadorov was traded to the Canucks in a mid-season trade and impressed with the club, playing big minutes and establishing himself as a presence on the blue line.
The Russian native scored four goals and four assists in 13 playoff games while amassing 102 penalty minutes during the regular season with the team (125 total between Vancouver and Calgary).
Given the Canucks' cap situation, it appears as though he will be testing the free-agent market, according to an Instagram post from his wife, Aleks:
While it doesn't he won't re-sign with the Canucks, Zadorov and his wife appear set on departing the city. After his strong play this season, he is in line for a pay raise.
Zadorov has played in Buffalo, Colorado, Calgary, and Vancouver. The Moscow native, who is 29 years old, will likely receive a hefty contract on the free agent market after an impressive campaign. He scored a career-best 14 goals with the Flames last season.
