Patrik Allvin announces an emergency call-up from AHL Abbotsford
The Vancouver Canucks will open up their first round series tonight against the Nashville Predators and General Manager Patrik Allvin has announced an emergency call-up from the American Hockey League.
In a post on social media, the Canucks announced that Allvin has called up goaltender Arturs Silovs from the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks under emergency conditions.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that G Artūrs ilovs has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL) under emergency conditions. Silovs will serve as the EBUG for Game 1 vs Nashville." The Canucks said.
While Canucks fans may immediately think that something is wrong with Thatcher Demko or Casey DeSmith, there's nothing to panic about. Every team in the National Hockey League calls up a third goaltender as an emergency backup, either from their AHL or ECHL affiliate.
With the Abbotsford Canucks off for the next few days before the Calder Cup Playoffs begin, they decided to call up Silovs, however, he'll likely be sent back down at some point this week.
Silovs, 23, has appeared in four games in the NHL this season for the Canucks where he had a record of 3-0-1 with a 2.47 goals against average and an .881 save percentage. Meanwhile, in 34 AHL games, he sported a record of 16-11-6 with a 2.74 goals against average, a .907 save percentage and four shutouts.
