Quinn Hughes Injury Update Raises Way More Questions Than Answers for the Vancouver Canucks

Hughes was a game-time decision after picking up an
undisclosed injury in the previous game.
He went through warmups, had multiple conversations with trainers, and ultimately made the tough call to sit this one out. In his absence,
Elias Pettersson-yes, the defenceman Pettersson-slotted into the lineup.
While Canucks fans held their breath, head coach Rick Tocchet provided some reassurance postgame.
«He wanted to gut it out, but not the smartest play to play him,» Tocchet said. «You know him, he wants to play every game. In 48 hours, we'll see how he is.»
Given how close he was to playing last night, it wouldn't be shocking to see No. 43 back on the ice.
For now, Tocchet has given the entire team a well-earned day off, which should give Hughes some extra time to rest and recover.
Rick Tocchet's injury update doesn't answer any questions
The Canucks haven't disclosed exactly what's bothering Hughes, but it seems to have happened in Friday's game against Dallas.
He missed over five minutes of the third period and was noticeably uncomfortable when he returned.
And let's not forget-Hughes has already been dealing with a hand injury for weeks. He's been wearing a bulky brace under his glove, though it hasn't stopped him from piling up points.
Despite battling through injuries, Hughes has taken his game to another level this season.
His 1.26 points-per-game is the highest among NHL defencemen and ranks eighth among all players.
Of course, the Norris Trophy race, and perhaps even the Hart Trophy race is heating up for Hughes.
And then there's
the 4 Nations Face-Off. Hughes has been named to Team USA, but with injuries piling up, should he consider sitting this one out?
Team USA opens the tournament on February 13 against Finland, and Canucks fans might prefer their captain gets some much-needed rest instead.
