The reason for the J.T. Miller trade with the New York Rangers falling apart has been revealed on Monday by multiple NHL insiders.

Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller almost found himself on his way out of British Columbia over the weekend after a trade with the New York Rangers was close, but fell through at the last minute.

The New York Rangers have a number of assets that could entice Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin, including 2020 first-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere, but it looks like the package in this weekend's trade offer wasn't up to the Canucks' liking.

Reason for rejected J.T. Miller/New York Rangers trade has been revealed

In a recent article on The Athletic, Thomas Drance, Rick Dhaliwal, Peter Baugh and Arthur Staple, the biggest reason why the trade between the New York Rangers and the Canucks fell through was because the conditions on a first-round pick heading to Vancouver couldn't be agreed on.

They also added that forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and some prospects were also involved in the deal.

"Rangers center Filip Chytil, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and some future-focused assets - the Rangers surprisingly scratched several Hartford Wolfpack players on Saturday, although it was unclear if it was trade-related - including a first-round pick could have been involved. One source briefed on the trade talks indicated that a disagreement on the protection structure of a first-round pick was a key hurdle." Drance, Dhaliwal, Baugh and Staple said in their joint article.

Ryan Lindgren would be an interesting piece for the Canucks' blueline, but doesn't necissarily move the needle as for what the team is looking for in a top-four defenseman.

As for Filip Chytil, when healthy he's a very talented player, hence why he was a first-round pick back in 2017.

However, his injury issues in recent years are a bit of a red flag for sure as he was limited to just ten regular season and six playoff games last season due to concussions.

We'll have to wait and see what the coming days and weeks bring on the trade front regarding J.T. Miller, but perhaps the Canucks and Rangers could come back to the table to renegotiate a deal.

Do you think a conditional 1st round pick, Filip Chytil and Ryan Lindgren is enough in a trade for J.T. Miller?
