Former Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller reportedly turned down a trade that would've seen him join a Western Conference contender.
J.T. Miller is enjoying life as a member of the New York Rangers organization after
after being traded to them at the end of January in a deal that saw the Canucks acquire
Filip Chytil, prospect Victor Mancini and a first-round pick, but it appears another team was pushing hard for the forward before he landed back in The Big Apple.
J.T. Miller reportedly turned down trade to Western Conference contender
According to Renaud Lavoie of
TVA Sports, before J.T. Miller was traded to the New York Rangers, the Vancouver Canucks were in talks with the Colorado Avalanche regarding a deal for the 31-year-old, but he reportedly turned it down.
Lavoie added that the New York Rangers were convinced J.T. Miller was going to be dealt to the Colorado Avalanche, but the former Canuck reportedly refused to waive his no-movement clause for the trade that would've seen him land in the Mile High City.
Note: the following quote was translated from French
"In their minds, they made the trade because J.T. Miller was coming to Colorado. They were convinced that J.T. Miller would be traded from the Canucks to the Avalanche, and from what I'm told, J.T. raised his hand and said, 'I'm not playing in Denver.'" Lavoie said.
Miller, a native of East Palestine, Ohio, has played quite well since his trade to the Rangers, recording nine points (five goals, four assists) and has an even-rating through eight games entering action on Friday.
It's safe to say that Miller was dead set on going back to the team that drafted him 15th overall in 2011 and had no interest in playing anywhere else, with his no-movement clause causing trouble for Patrik Allvin, who did the best he could with the return in that trade.
If J.T. Miller were to approve that trade to the Colorado Avalanche last month, it would be interesting to see what assets Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks could've got.
A first-round pick would've been ideal, but without the Avalanche having one in 2025, it would've had to be either 2026, which is expected to be a much deeper draft than this year, or 2027.
Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks are happy with the return they got, with Filip Chytil slotting into that 2C role, they're excited with what they've got in Victor Mancini and the first-round pick
they flipped in a trade with Pittsburgh to get
Marcus Pettersson, addressing a big area of need - a top-four defenseman.
