Scary Scene in Vancouver as Filip Chytil Suffers Devastating Head Injury from Dangerous Jason Dickinson Hit
A former member of the Vancouver Canucks is drawing plenty of criticism on Sunday after a dangerous hit on Filip Chytil during last night's game.
Vancouver played quite well last night, scoring six goals for the first time since October 22nd, but there was an incident in the third period that everyone is talking about this morning and it could lead to a suspension.
During the third period of last night's game, former Vancouver Canucks forward Jason Dickinson came in an laid a dangerous hit on an unsuspecting Filip Chytil.
Chytil was along the boards looking into the corner after winning the race to the puck when Dickinson skates towards the Czech forward, who had no clue he was about to be hit and gets run from behind, right on the numbers.
The 25-year-old immediately fell to the ice holding his head and when he initially tried to get up, he lost his balance and went back down, before leaving for the Canucks' dressing room and understandably, did not return.
There was no call from the officials for Dickinson's hit on Chytil and zero response from the Canucks players who were on the ice at the time of the incident, which was likely frustrating for Rick Tocchet and the coaching staff.
Tocchet told reporters after the game that he didn't have an update on Filip Chytil, nor did he get an explanation from the officials on why there was no call on Dickinson's hit.
"Rick Tocchet didn't have an update on Filip Chytil after the game. He said he didn't get an explanation for the non-call from the officials." Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet said.
Chytil, a native of Kromeriz, Czechia, has a history of concussion issue during his career in the National Hockey League to this point and last season, was limited to just ten games due to injury.
We'll have to wait and see if the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety decides to do anything regarding Jason Dickinson's hit on Filip Chytil, but there's no doubt that the Blackhawks forward deserves some sort of supplemental discipline.
