Canucks Fans Left Scratching Their Heads After Vancouvers Latest Trade Announcement
After a breakout campaign in 2023-24, the Vancouver Canucks' season ends on a disappointing note as they fall short of the playoffs. With just a few games remaining, the focus in Vancouver has already shifted to strengthening the roster for next season.
Vancouver Canucks management look to build off the pieces they already have to field a competitive team for as early as next season.
Dylan Nazareth from Canucks Army writes that Canucks GM Patrick Allvin is already please with the foundation of his current roster. Here's what the general manager he had to say about his team's plans for the offseaon.
"We have some really good building blocks here with the young players in the pipeline. I'm pleased with our goalie situation and I'm pleased with our back end. Our focus here is to see if we can improve our forwards group by either trades or free agents." - Allvin
Despite dealing with some tough injury luck on the back end, including setbacks to starting goalie
Thatcher Demko and multiple blue-liners, the Canucks have a strong foundation on defense when fully healthy.
Still, with
JT Miller gone,
Brock Boeser unlikely to return, and only defenseman
Quinn Hughes surpassing the 50-point mark with three games remaining, it's clear the team needs an offensive boost heading into next season.
Nazareth also writes that a number of big names are set to hit the market this summer, and if Boeser walks, it opens up some cap room for the team in pursuing one of these targets, especially with the salary cap set to go up.
"There has also been some discussion about what the Canucks may be able to offer in a trade this summer, including if their top picks in the 2025 draft could possibly be on the table." -Nazareth
As Allvin looks to bring in reinforcements this offseason, it's evident he remains committed to the core he's assembled, showing faith that the team can rebound next season with the right additions.
