The netminder has been sidelined since game one of last year's Stanley Cup playoffs, and while he's made some progress, and injury is still holding him back making him unavailable to start training with his teammates as the start of the regular season approaches.
It scared the majority when it was announced the netminder would hold a press conference of his own to address his injury and his rehabilitation. However, to the surprise of many, Demko came with positive updates.
At this point, Demmer is confident that he'll be back at 100%. Even though his rehabilitation took longer then expected over the summer, he made important progress over the last two weeks and he's starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
From the intel he's gathered with the doctors, no other hockey player has ever been diagnosed with this particular injury.
Despite the positivity behind his media outing, nobody in the organization, Demko included, has committed to a possible return date.
The fact that the Vancouver Canucks have only signed a netminder to a professional try out instead of going out and acquire a potential replacement sure hints in the right direction.
At this point, the Canucks are expected to go through training camp with Arturs Silovs as their starter, their should be a battle for the temporary second netminder gig between Dylan Ferguson, Nikita Tolopilo and Jiri Patera.
