Just before the first on-ice session of the day for Vancouver's training camp in Penticton, goaltender Thatcher Demko took to the crease for some light warm ups.
Thatcher Demko eventually ramped up a bit on the ice, stopping every shot he faced from goaltending coach Marko Torenius, according to David Quadrelli of Canucks Army.
The 28-year-old is set to meet with the media today to discuss his injury and recovery. Demko suffered back-to-back injuries to his knee late in the regular season and again in Game 1 of their first-round series against the Nashville Predators.
It was reported that Demko wouldn't be ready for training camp and preseason games and while the latter still may be true, it's a good sign to see him on the ice on Day 1 in Penticton. It must be a relief for the Canucks' management and coaching staff, as well as the players who get to be in front of one of the league's best goaltenders on a nightly basis.
We'll have to wait and see what Thatcher Demko has to say to the media and if he's able to give a timeline for when he'll be able to get back into game action, but everyone is hoping he'll be between the pipes on October 9th for the season opener against the Calgary Flames.
