After spending 12 seasons in the National Hockey League with Buffalo, Vancouver, Edmonton and Arizona, and last year in Czechia with HC Sparta Praha, Zack Kassian has decided to hang up the skates and will now transition into an off-ice role with the Oilers.
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal shared on Wednesday that Kassian has been hired by the Oilers as a professional scout, replacing Jason Pietrzykowski.
Kassian, 33, spent parts of four seasons in Vancouver with the Canucks after being traded to them in early 2012 by the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Cody Hodgson. In 171 games as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, Kassian had 59 points (32 goals, 27 assists), 287 penalty minutes and was a minus-17.
Last summer, Kassian had his contract bought out by the Arizona Coyotes, making him an unrestricted free agent. He went all summer without a contract, but landed a PTO with the Anaheim Ducks, which was ultimately unsuccessful. A few months after being released from his PTO, Kassian headed to Europe and signed with HC Sparta Praha, registering three points in eight games.
Everyone here at Canucks Daily would like to congratulate Zack Kassian on a lengthy career in hockey and wish him all the best going forward.
