Early in the third period, a dangerous play occurred that could have left Vancouver Canucks defenceman Nikita Zadorov seriously injured.
With the play in Vancouver's zone, Quinn Hughes is taking the puck behind the net while Nikita Zadorov is boxing out Vegas Golden Knights forward Brett Howden. Zadorov and Howden get a bit tangled up, and that's when the latter dangerously trips the Canucks blueliner.
The officials caught it right away and gave Brett Howden a two-minute minor for tripping on the play. However, the Canucks failed to score on the man advantage with them being tied 2-2 at that point in the game.
Later in the period, Brock Boeser scored his 40th of the season, while Conor Garland picked up the game-winner with less than two minutes to play as the Canucks defeated the Golden Knights by a score of 4-3. It's been a tough go recently for the Canucks against teams who currently occupy playoff positions, so getting a win against the Golden Knights was massive.
It's been announced that the NHL would not be investigating the matter any further. In the Canucks' recent games, there's been an elevated number of questionable calls; you can add this one to the list. Some could even argue that the play was premeditated due to the existing history between the two; Howden was the victim of Zadorov's behind-the-back hit from a few games ago.
Do you think Brett Howden should've received supplemental discipline from the NHL for his trip on Nikita Zadorov? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
