The Canucks lost their starting netminder Thatcher Demko one game into the NHL's 2024 postseason. Numerous reports have been talking about a potential return into the second round but the latest update on the netminder confirmed it wouldn't be for the Canucks and the Oilers' first meeting.

Thatcher Demko has been ruled out by Rick Tocchet for Game one against the Edmonton Oilers. The Canucks head coach officially announced he'd be out for the first game as per Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.

No surprise, but Rick Tocchet has officially ruled Thatcher Demko out for Game 1. #Canucks @Sportsnet650,

While the Canucks goalie has been expected to miss more time with injury, some fans have hoped he'd be on track to return to action sooner after he was spotted skating before Game 6 against the Predators.

Arturs Silovs and Casey DeSmith both performed admirably against the Predators, but they'll be faced with a different challenge against McDavid and the Oilers. It will be the first time these two teams have met in the playoffs since 1992, the NHL has not yet announced when Game 2 will be.
