B.C. & Alberta Premiers place bet on Canucks/Oilers series
The last time the National Hockey League had two Canadian teams face each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2022, when the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers met in the second round. Now, the Vancouver Canucks and the Oilers are set to meet in the post-season for the first time since 1992.
The upcoming series between the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers is set to be one for the ages and it's even caught the eye of the Premiers from each province, who have decided to make a bet.
In a post on social media, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith challenged her British Columbia counterpart, saying that the loser will have to read a statement in the provinces legislature and wear the winning team's jersey.
"Here we go Premier @Dave_Eby
Vancouver vs Edmonton.
Let's make a bet: loser has to deliver a statement in the Legislature written by the winner while wearing the other's jersey. Deal?" Danielle Smith said.
B.C. Premier David Eby responded to Smith's challenge and accepted the bet, saying that they'll have to set aside their hate for the Calgary Flames for what he called "hockey glory".
"In this vast democracy called Canada, we must often set aside our differences to come together. But over the coming weeks, British Columbians & Edmontonians will have to set aside what we have in common (hating the Calgary Flames) for hockey glory.
Bet's on!" Eby said.
It great to see that despite their political differences, they're able to put aside their differences and come together to place a friendly bet on the Canucks/Oilers series.
