The Hurricanes' first-round Draft Selection in 2017 seemingly asked for an opportunity for a more prominent role within his team. According to sources, the Canes deemed it impossible and chose to explore their alternatives. Necas is bound to be a restricted free agent by July 1st, and he'll be commanding an important extension, one the Canes won't be willing to pay.
NHL insiders Frank Seravalli, Elliotte Friedman and Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal have all confirmed the talks between Patrik Allvin and the Hurricanes. Everyone agrees it'll be a challenging transaction due to the players' contractual status. A massive trade proposal has been gaining traction on social media and is a cause for conversation:
The Canucks could use Necas on their top six, but this seems like a little much. Hronek has proven to be a very capable second defenseman. Hoglander scored 24 goals during the 2023-2024 campaign and has one of the NHL's most cost-effective contracts; it would make no sense for the Canucks to send him away.
Necas scored 71 and 53 points in his last two seasons and would most certainly benefit from a more significant role and playing time alongside an offensive stud like Elias Pettersson. Giving a rare breed of right-handed defenseman like Filip Hronek and Nils Hoglander, an exciting prospect in D-Pettey on top of the 2025 1st Rounder, is extreme.
