Vancouver Canuck Submit Complaint to the NHL Over Rick Tocchet-Philadelphia Flyers Rumors
The Vancouver Canucks aren't too happy with some reports linking head coach Rick Tocchet to the vacancy behind the bench in Philadelphia.
A little over a week ago, the Philadelphia Flyers made the decision to
fire head coach John Tortorella amid another losing season, ending his tenure in the City of Brotherly Love with 97 wins in 237 games.
Almost immediately following John Tortorella's departure, reports starting coming out from several media personalities
linking Rick Tocchet to Philadelphia as potentially their next head coach.
Vancouver Canucks issue complaint over reports linking Rick Tocchet to Philadelphia
During last week's edition of
the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that the Vancouver Canucks weren't too pleased about those reports that came out linking their head coach to the Flyers.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks made their displeasure known to the National Hockey League and possibly even the Philadelphia Flyers too.
"I think the Canucks have not been happy with the noise around Tocchet and Philadelphia. I think they've made their displeasure quite clear - potentially to the Flyers and to the league itself." Friedman said.
The reports linking Rick Tocchet to the Philadelphia Flyers do make sense given that he spent 11 seasons there as a player and was their captain in 1991-92 before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but at this point, it seems unlikely that he'll head there this summer.
Rick Tocchet hasn't been too interested in answering quesitons from reporters about his contract status with the Vancouver Canucks and whether or not an extension is in the cards, but last week Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the team is determined to get him locked up.
"According to several sources, the Canucks are indicating that if Tocchet is coaching next season, it will be in Vancouver on his club option or with an extension.
Their goal is to extend him, but they will exercise the option if it is necessary." Friedman said.
Tocchet, 60, has a 105-63-26 record in 194 games behind the bench for the Vancouver Canucks, leading them to a Pacific Division title last season while earning the Jack Adams Award as the league's best coach.
