The NHL and entire hockey community has lost another important and highly respected member as it was announced that Former NHLer and Broadcasting Legend Greg Millen has Passed Away at the Age of 67.
The NHL Alumni Association announced the terribly sad news on X (formally Twitter) that Greg Millen had sadly and suddenly passed.
They released a long and heartfelt statement about his his wonderful NHL and Post-NHL career, talking about what he meant as player and analyst.
He was known and loved by all in the broadcasting world! Millen has covered three Olympic Games, two World Cups of Hockey, twelve Stanley Cup finals, and twelve NHL All-Star games.
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Greg's family at this very difficult time.
Millen spent 14 season's as a goalie in the NHL where he dressed up for 6 different organizations including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings.
He amassed over 600 games in the NHL before transitioning broadcasting where he got his foot in the door with the Ottawa Senators during the 1992-1993 inaugural season.
Millen became a well known face and voice of NHL broadcasting, where he really started to shine as a member of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada and Sportsnet's NHL coverage.
Working with legends of the game such as Bob Cole, Don Cherry and Ron MacLean, his respect and reputations spoke volumes of the type of man he was.
On top of all that, Greg earned a master's degree in leadership from the University of Guelph in 2014. He was passionate about developing leadership character, working with the Seattle Kraken, various companies, and teaching leadership at Fleming College in Peterborough.
