After signing forward Jake DeBrusk to a seven-year deal back in July, many were wondering what type of player he would be for the Vancouver Canucks.
There was no doubt Jake DeBrusk was going to slot right into the top-six forward group and be an option to play alongside Elias Pettersson, creating space for the Swedish forward by using his physicality and aggressiveness on the forecheck.
However, it was not a very good first month as a member of the Vancouver Canucks for Jake DeBrusk, putting up just four assists in nine games during October.
As the calendar flipped to November, Jake DeBrusk took his game to entirely new level and is proving that he might be one of, if not the best signing from the free agent class of 2024.
Heading into action on Saturday, Jake DeBrusk is among the best in the National Hockey League
since the start of November, when he began his hot streak.
Since November 2nd, Jake DeBrusk is tied for the National Hockey League lead in goals with Colorado Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen with 14, while Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl sits two goals back at 12.
When it comes to the free agent class of 2024, Jake DeBrusk sits second in goals, with 14, two back of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel, who currently has 16 as of Saturday morning.
While Vancouver Canucks fans were hoping to land Jake Guentzel either by trade or in free agency, his cap hit of $9 million USD was quite high for them to reach, especially when considering they need to re-sign Brock Boeser soon, and so far, are getting some impressive value from Jake DeBrusk and his $5.5 million USD salary.
It's still early and there's plenty of hockey to play this season, but there's no doubt that once all is said and done, and the Stanley Cup is handed out, Jake DeBrusk will be up there as one of the best free agency signings from this past summer.
