Players let their emotions get the best of them during a game sometimes, no matter what sport they play and often times, it's done in the heat of the moment and there's no malice behind what they say or do.
Sometimes, the things those players say in the heat of the moment are caught on a hot mic and that's exactly what happened with Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood on Tuesday night.
Early on in the first period of last night's game against Anaheim, the Ducks were looking to break out of their zone and get the puck deep in Vancouver's end. Ducks defenceman Brian Dumoulin made a stretch pass to Trevor Zegras, who was in the neutral zone and quickly dumped the puck in for his teammates to chase down.
As Trevor Zegras dumps the puck in, he spins off to avoid being hit by Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood, who was caught on a hot mic calling the Ducks forward a 'f**cking p**sy'. Given that Kiefer Sherwood is the current hits leader in the National Hockey League with 72 in 11 games, it's not hard to see why Zegras spun off to avoid the Canucks forward.
The Ducks would go on to score shortly after, taking a 1-0 lead thanks to defenceman Olen Zellweger. But Vancouver scored five unanswered goals including the game-winner, which came from Kiefer Sherwood late in the first period, which is his third of the season.
Sherwood and the Canucks are rolling right now, winning the first two games of their three-game California road trip against San Jose and Anaheim. They'll look to sweep the road trip with a win in Los Angeles on Thursday night, with puck drop set for just after 7:30 pm PT.
