Head Coach Rick Tocchet has confirmed that Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson, both of whom missed practice on Friday, would not be playing on Saturday afternoon.
The two players status was in doubt after missing practice yesterday, and today Tocchet confirmed the bad news.
The Canucks captain appeared to be nursing a hand injury in skates before Christmas, but still played in the team's final game before the break.
Hughes has been rather healthy throughout his career, and last missed game action in October 2022.
Without him, players like Erik Brannstrom and Carson Soucy will have to step into larger roles, while Tyler Myers will have to continue shouldering a heavy load.
Elias Pettersson has missed 46 games in his career, and the Canucks have a 20-22-4 record without him.
Max Sasson is expected to enter the lineup in his place.
While life without Hughes and Pettersson will certainly be an uphill battle, the Vancouver Canucks did finally receive some good news on the injury front.
Rick Tocchet confirmed that Filip Hronek is skating again, the defenceman has been out since November 27 and was given an eight week recovery timeline.
He's apparently tracking well along that timeline, so while it's still good news for the team, they have to keep their heads above water until then.
