The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Drew O'Connor to a contract extension on Tuesday, following in footsteps of Marcus Pettersson, who he was traded with.

Nearly three weeks ago, the Vancouver Canucks made a big splash on the trade market, acquiring Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor from the Pittsburgh Penguins in order to bolster their top-four defensive group and forward depth, respectively.

After acquiring Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor, the Vancouver Canucks went to work in order to sign the pair to contract extensions, as it was a big priority for them, according to multiple reports.
First up was Marcus Pettersson, who signed a six-year deal with the club less than a week after the trade and on Tuesday, it was Drew O'Connor's turn to put pen to paper.
In a post on social media today, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $5 million ($2.5 million AAV) with Drew O'Connor.
"Drew has really made a good first impression since joining our team from Pittsburgh at the beginning of the month. We like his size, speed and ability to get in on the forecheck and hound pucks. Our staff also feel confident that they can help Drew take his game to another level and we are excited to see what the future holds for him with the Vancouver Canucks." General Manager Patrik Allvin said.

O'Connor, 26, has appeared in four games with the Vancouver Canucks since the trade where he's registered two goals, six penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
In terms of depth for the Vancouver Canucks and the cost to sign Drew O'Connor to an extension, this is a solid move from Patrik Allvin, especially when considering the salary cap is going up considerably over the next three seasons.
The Chatham, New Jersey native and the rest of the Vancouver Canucks will be back in action on Saturday night as they begin a five-game road trip with a stop in Vegas against the Golden Knights.
