Vancouver Canucks' Starting Goaltender Announced for Friday's Game vs Columbus Blue Jackets
The Vancouver Canucks are facing another must-win scenario on Friday night as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets and the team's starting netminder has been announced.
For several weeks now, the Vancouver Canucks have seen their
Stanley Cup Playoff odds rise and fall, but the team remains in the mix after a big win on Wednesday against the New York Islanders.
Tonight, the Canucks will look to continue their winning ways and get closer to the St. Louis Blues, who occupy the final wild card spot in the Western Conference and we now know who will be between the pipes for the team.
Vancouver Canucks' starter announced for tonight's game
The Vancouver Canucks took to the ice for an optional morning skate on Friday as they prepare for this important game and according to Dan Murphy of
Sportsnet, it appears that
Kevin Lankinen will be getting the start in goal.
As for tonight's lines and defensive pairings, as well as the possibility of changes, that won't be known until the team hits the ice at Nationwide Arena for the warmup.
Speaking of that illness Kevin Lankinen has been dealing with, it appears that it's going around the team, Dan Murphy is reporting, which led to the team
calling up Max Sasson from the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks this morning under emergency conditions.
"Optional skate, but looking like a Lankinen start. Sasson called up because the flu continues to be a problem for #canucks" Murphy said on X.
Lankinen, a native of Helsinki, Finland, has appeared in 46 games this season for Vancouver where he has a 24-14-8 record with a 2.59 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and four shutouts.
Puck drop for tonight's game against Columbus is set for 4 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific in the Vancouver viewing region.
