Horvat makes a statement that's not bearing good news
Per the usual, Bo Horvat met with the media after the team suffered another loss, this time in Florida. The team has had issues defensively since the beginning of the season and they've lost pretty much every game where they weren't able to outscore the opponent.
Bo Horvat has provided lots of stories to write since he's been on a tear this season and his contract is expiring. The team captain scored again last night, which provided him his 30th of the season, 200th in his career, and 47th point of the campaign. Horvat's next goal will tie the previous career-high he had set for himself last year (31) and the pace he's on leads us to believe that he'll also wreck the 61 points career-high he had in 2018-2019.
Horvat's been bleeding blue with the Canucks for nine years now, and right now, the personal success he's having doesn't cut it for him. Even though Horvat has said on multiple occasions that he loves Vancouver and that he doesn't want to go anywhere else, he made a comment that may lead him elsewhere.
"I'm at that point in my career. You need wins. You need wins if you want to make the playoffs and play meaningful games coming down the stretch. Personal success is great, but I mean, at the end of the day if we don't make the playoffs, it doesn't mean much."
Horvat deserves a raise and he's proven in the few occasions he's had, that he could raise in the moments when games were on the line. The Canucks have not yet shown the will to pay the man the money he's entitled to, nor do they have the cap space to make it happen to this day.
Horvat's will to win may be what leads him out of Vancouver, the team has shown it needed a major change in its structure in order to not rely as much on the goaltender. Canucks showed last year that they were a competitive team when
Thatcher Demko stood on his head to bail him out, but Demko being injured and not playing to the best of his ability has demonstrated the team's true liabilities.
