November 11th marks a day of remembrance.
November 12th marks a date the Canucks would rather forget as they have a dreadful record on this day over the last 20+ years.
Let's have a closer look.
It was a cold November 12th night in the Mile High City back in 2008, Taylor Pyatt & Marek Svatos traded goals in regulation before Svatos followed it up with a goal in the shootout. The Canucks didn't know it then, but they will have since spent 14 more years chasing a road win on November 12th as a franchise.
Fast forward to 2009 & the Canucks found themselves in the Motor City to face the Red Wings. They were good at this time, like Zetterberg & Datsyuk good. They handled the Canucks with a tidy 3-1 victory, Mason Raymond tallying for the Canucks in yet another road defeat. When I say these Wings were good, they would go on to lose the Stanley Cup to the Pittsburgh Penguins after 7 hard fought battles.
In 2015 it was a visit to the Nation's capital that set the stage for the next instalment of November 12th road games. The Sven Baertschi experiment provided the first goal of the game, Alex Edler scored the last goal of the game. The problem? The Senators scored 3 in between those, the Edler goal coming with the net empty. The streak continues.
One of the better uniforms in the NHL are the uniforms the New York Islanders wore November 12th 2018 when they welcomed the Canucks back to the Big Apple in a rematch of the 1982 Stanley Cup. There weren't any of the same players in the lineup, but the result was a carbon copy of all 4 games back in June of '82. A resounding 5-2 victory for the Isles, with Brendan Leipsic & Jake Virtanen handling the scoring for Vancouver.
On Nov 12th 2019 they finally bucked the trend & on the back of a pair of goals from
Elias Pettersson AND
Tanner Pearson 'The Boys' pulled out a 5-3 victory at home vs the Nashville Predators, pushing their record to 10-6-3 at the time. Wouldn't that record look good next to this year's squad.
That was their first win since November 12th 2002 when they beat the St Louis Blues, again at what was then known as 'The Garage'. We shall see if they can get their first win on the road on the 12th of November since a November 12th win in the Coyote den in Glendale by a score of 3-2.
Elias Pettersson was celebrating his 2nd Birthday. He turned 25 today. This team needs a road win, the law of averages says they get it tonight in the '6.
