Amid the passing of former NHLer Adam Johnson, several teams, leagues and national governing bodies are beginning to mandate their players wear neckguards in games.

While on NHL Network radio, National Hockey League Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said that Gary Bettman has been in contact with NHLPA Executive Director Marty Walsh regarding neckguards.

Daly also mentioned that the National Hockey League is strongly recommending their players wear neck guards in games, but it is still not mandatory yet.

"NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly tells NHL Network Radio that Gary Bettman has contacted Marty Walsh of the PA to get the neck guard issue 'on the radar.' Daly says the NHL is strongly recommending the use of neck guards."

For neckguards to become mandatory, the National Hockey League Players Association must agree with the NHL before things are made official. Still, given the unfortunate passing of Adam Johnson, talks between the two sides could move along pretty quickly.

Neck guards should become mandatory at every level across the globe. In Canada, neck guards are compulsory for every league, including the CHL, except the NHL.

Should neckguards be mandatory in the National Hockey League? Please share your thoughts with us in the poll below!
