According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Hurricanes are unlikely to issue a $3 million qualifying offer to the pending RFA forward, which will make him an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.
Puljujarvi was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers back in 2016 and his time with their organization was rocky, to say the least. Instead of signing with the Oilers ahead of the 2019-20 season, he returned to Finland for the year, before coming back to Edmonton ahead of the COVID-shortened 2021 season.
The 25-year-old wanted a fresh start and the Oilers accommodated that request on February 28th, shipping him to the Hurricanes for Patrik Puistola.
In 17 games with the Hurricanes after the trade, Puljujarvi had two assists, two penalty minutes and was a minus-two. He would go on to appear in seven of Carolina's 15 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording only one assist.
